A school affiliated to the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations has been pulled up by the Education Department for allegedly not allowing students to appear for the mid-term examinations due to non-payment of fees and discriminating against them in academic activities.
Basaveshwarnagar’s V L S International School has been pulled up by Bangalore North deputy director for Public Instruction, B P Venkatesh. In a notice, he asked the school to allow Y N Sharav Gowda, a Class 6 student and others to take the mid term exam that started from Friday. “You are to allow continuance of students in academics and the mid-term exam and submit a compliance report,” Venkatesh stated. Members of the V L S International School Parents’ Association staged a protest in front of the school on Friday. They alleged that the school threatened that students who had not paid fees would not be issued hall tickets. The school later allowed the children to take the exam.
“The school hiked the fee from Rs 18,000 to Rs 32,320 this year. They want us to pay this in two terms, one during admission and another through a post-dated cheque. We opposed the hike, but the school sent us legal notices for non-payment of fees, stating that our children would not be issued hall tickets,” said Suma S R, whose daughter studies in Class 6.
