Packed with history and ancient tradition, the Hedathale Temple is a must visit, says K G Sudhindra

Everyone knows Nanjunde-shwara temple in Nanjangud. However, there is a place called Hedathale near Nanjangud. The temple is dedicated to Lakshmikantha Perumal. Built in 1182 by Hoysalas,it follows the Thrikutachala Style of temples.  The main deity is Lakshmikantha Perumal but the temple also houses Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy and Venugopala Swamy. There is also a beautiful idol of Andal which will leave on ever lasting impression on you. In the outer precincts, you can find Chavadi or Hadinaru Mukha Chavadi (16-faced hall) which was built by Pallegara Bhimana Dhanda Nayaka. There is an interesting story behind it. Apparently, Nayaka had 16 daughters so the 16 halls. It has been built in such a manner that from the place where he sat, all the 16 daughters and 16 sons-in-law were visible but from where his wife sat, only the 16 daughters were visible. This is one of the great architectural works you can see in this temple.
