RGUHS PGET: Boys ace medical, girls top in dental

Boys grabbed the top ranks in medical while girls aced the dental stream in the post-graduate entrance test results announced by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) on Tuesday.  Students from medical and dental colleges in Mangalore have topped the entrance test by securing the highest marks across the state.

Aarti Goel from Delhi, who has completed BDS from Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore, has secured the first rank in dental, by obtaining 156 marks. “I will choose MD in conservative dentistry and endodontics as the course is in demand and is largely required due to the increasing number of patients. I would like to go to the Government Dental College, which is the best in Karnataka.”

Aarti has also topped the Manipal P-G Entrance Test and was the captain of the basketball team in her alma mater.

“I regularly played both basketball and table tennis every day during break time. Consistent preparation helped me secure the best scores,” she said. Hailing from a family of medical doctors, Aarti is the only dentist in the family of 54 medical doctors and she attributes her success to her grandfather who has been her inspiration throughout her academics. Mudita Verma, a BDS graduate from Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Mangalore, secured the second rank in the PGET 2013 results. “I would prefer to join the Government Dental College and pursue Endodontics or orthodontics based on the seat selection process,” says Mudita who has also appeared for other entrance tests like COMED-K and Manipal entrance test.

Harish C, who secured the second rank in medical, wants to pursue, orthopaedics. “I would like to do my P-G in orthopaedics and it does not require super specialisation in the same subject, unlike other courses. I will consult my professors regarding the medical institutions that I should zero in on,” Harish said.

Santosh Narayanan, an MBBS graduate from A J Institute of Medical Sciences, Mangalore, who had secured 17 gold medals from RGUHS for overall performance during graduation, has bagged the third rank in medical. “My National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Post Graduate ranking is 130.
