B V Jayanth, the suspended instructor of Government Smt L V Polytechnic in Hassan, has been dismissed from service for sending a cheque of `1 lakh to Governor H R Bhardwaj in September 2012.

Jayanth has been charged with acting in contravention of provisions of the Karnataka Civil Service (Conduct) Rules, 1966 and Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The director of the Department of Technical Education (DTE) , H U Talwar, issued a 12-page dismissal order on Tuesday.

Jayanth hit the headlines when he sent a cheque to the governor requesting him to direct the Higher Education Under-Secretary to cancel his “illegal” transfer from Chikmagalur to Bidar.

Jayanth welcomed his dismissal and said he will challenge it. “This shows that the Constitution does not apply in the state of Karnataka. It gives me another opportunity to continue my fight,” he told Express. He alleged that he was transferred from D A C G Polytechnic, Chikmagalur, to Government Polytechnic, Bidar because he pointed out corrupt practices in the DTE. He was later transferred to Hassan without him even taking charge in Bidar, he claimed.

“Every law in the state comes in the name of the Governor. It is the Governor’s responsibility to ensure the laws are not violated. I had written to him 13 times and I got no response,” Jayanth said, adding that he sent the cheque “to bring to his (Governor’s) notice the  corruption in the DTE.”
