BANGALORE: This movie is an unfortunate accident in Pavan Wadeyar’s career. The rising filmmaker wanted to take a shot at acting, but his attempt seems to have backfired. Preethi Geethi Ityadi deals with love and emotions in a manner that is too slow and ambiguous to be effective.
Veerandra’s debut direction, which was over-praised even before the film's release, opens with the story of Pavan Wadeyar, a bar owner, who along with his uncle (Ranghana Raghu) enters a shooting spot and forcefully asks a man to accompany him in a car.
A flashback follows, in which Pavan and his bride-to-be sister run over a man while driving on a highway, killing him. The only witness to this accident is a mentally-challenged man living on the roadside.
The screenplay moves on to him falling in love with the accident victim's daughter Nandita (Sangeetha Bhat). How the protagonist overcomes the hurdles that appear suddenly in his easy-going life forms the rest of Preethi Geethi Ityadi.
The premise here is unique, but it wears thin after the first reel. Even though Veerandra strives mightily to keep the love and emotions intact, the audience finds it hard to sit through the film.
The weakness of the film lies in its simultaneous presentation of love, fear and emotions. Though Pavan, Sangeetha, Vinay Prasad, Rangayana Raghu and other actors try their best to keep the plot engaging, the pace is so slow that by the end the audience doesn’t care about the characters anymore.
The film does not have an enduring script and is marred by unexpected twists and turns that do nothing to make it better.
Surprisingly, Veersamarth's tunes to the lyrics written by Yogaraj Bhat do not make for a good listening experience. Cinematographer Bharath has failed to capture the right locations well and Suresh's editing does not add value to the screenplay. This could have been a much better film with more attention to detail.
Verdict: Minimal dialogues, spatial disorientation and an overdone story does not make for an unconventional film.
