Nikhil, Nivedita, Srinath Bag Top Honours at State Film Awards

BENGALURU: The Karnataka State Film Awards for the year 2013 were announced here on Sunday.

Nikhil Manju has won the best actor award for his role in Haj, while Nivedita has bagged the best actress award for December 1. Both awards carry a cash prize of `20,000 and a silver medal.

State Infrastructure Development, Information and Haj Minister Roshan Baig who announced the winners said the award ceremony would be held at Mysuru in February. Most of the films that have been selected are experimental, and have been screened at various film festivals.

Thrilled about the award, Nivedita said, “I am happy that I am getting the State Award for my role in December 1. More than me, my parents are excited. I have attended various film festivals and was happy to see the response for December 1. “  

The Dr Rajkumar Award for lifetime achievement

will be given to actor Srinath, while the Puttanna Kanagal Award for outstanding contribution to the field of direction will be given to P H Vishwanath.

The Dr Vishnuvardhan Award for contribution to Kannada cinema will be given to veteran producer and distributor K V Gupta. All these awards carry a prize money of `2 lakh and a gold medal.

In the best film category, Haj has won the first place, while Jatta and Prakruti have won the second best and third best films respectively. The award carries a prize money of `50,000 and a 100gm silver medal.

The award for the film with a social message will be given to Ingale Marga, produced by Bagalkot-based Vaishno Devi Creations. The award carries a purse of `75,000 and a 100 gram silver medal.

The award for the popular film will be given to Charminar. The award carries a purse of `50,000 and a 100gm silver medal.

“I had won the hearts of audiences with Charminar and now the film winning a State Award is recognition of my work. This award goes to the entire team who worked for the movie,” said R Chandru, director and producer of Charminar.

The award for a director whose debut film has become a success will be given to Mahantesh Ramdurg for Agassi Parlour.  “Though the award has come for my work in Agassi Parlour, I should thank Prakash Belawadi, Achyuth Kumar, Bhagirathi Bai, Kailash Jahangir and Nagashree who were part of my film. This award comes mainly because of the content and due to the efforts of the producer, cameraman, editor and the crew,” Ramdurg said.

Film awards selection committee president Prof GK Govindrao said, “All works have been scrutinised. There are no irregularities in the selection process.”

Director of the state information department N R Vishukumar was present at the press meet.
