CUBBON PARK:  Free WiFi is coming to Cubbon Park on Friday The service is already available along the boulevard near Rangoli Metro Art Centre and Jayanagar and Shanthinagar bus stands. Supported by the government, BSNL is rolling out the service at Cubbon Park and Lalbagh as well.

Citizens already have access to free WiFi at 1 MG Road mall. To access WiFi at these hotspots, users will have to connect to QFI-BSNL and open a browser, which will direct them to the login page.They login requires a mobile number, first name and last name and email id.

A verification code is sent to the given mobile number. Users have to enter the verification code to successfully start using the service. The service is free for 30 minutes in 24 hours after which the user is required to buy cards or recharge online.

Janardhan Rao, General Manager, Broadband, BSNL, said, “The free WiFi service has been functional in Cubbon Park from Wednesday but it is going to be formally inaugurated on Friday. The service is restricted to the Bal Bhavan area. Lalbagh too is going to join the list in the next 15 days.”

Plans are afoot to provide free WiFi service at bus stands in Kanakapura, Herohalli, Bidadi, Ramanagaram, Channapatna and Kunigal in association with BSNL, which is expected to roll out in another 20 days, sources reveal.

Getting on the digital highway

The recently launched Digital India campaign aims to empower people even in rural areas with digital access. The initiative is expected to provide high-speed Internet everywhere. Many places in Bengaluru are getting free WiFi.
