QUEEN'S ROAD: Neecia Majolly is generally known in the music community as a concert pianist, Western classical/theatre vocalist, choir director and teacher. She is also the founder-trustee of The Majolly Music Trust. The Trust promotes education in music, besides having set up a unique pension fund for aged and infirm musicians.

However, few know that Neecia also has a classical/electronic/progressive rock band called The Majolly Project (TMP)

“I have been trying to put this project together for years, but always had issues with musicians about commitment. Finally, in September last year, this dream of mine which I had nurtured since I was a teenager, came to a fruition.”

And this dream yielded more than what Neecia thought it would. The very first single of  The Majolly Project titled Dark Room recently won a gold medal in the Emerging Artiste category at the Global Music Awards. Says Neecia, “We just thought we would try and compete, and we are over the moon that this happened. Especially because we were the only winners from India!” She adds, “This has certainly validated our work, and we will certainly push towards even bigger things but it is very important that the music loving public support our work. And yes, a lot of people who know me as a Western classical musician are quite surprised by this new avatar. But I was never hesitant about chasing my dreams.”

TMP has three passionate musicians, Ashwin Shekhar on percussion, Anish Thomas Panikkar on keyboards/programming, and Neecia is the singer/songwriter and arranger.

Every member has a unique music sensibility and having performed in their respective fields for a while now, the artistes aim at producing an unpredictable sound. They are in the process of writing songs for their first album. These songs will be distinctly powerful and will evoke strong personal reactions connected to each individual’s reality.

The Majolly Project is on Facebook, reverbnation, soundcloud and YouTube.
