3 Held For Plotting Murder

BENGALURU: City Crime Branch police on Wednesday arrested a gang of three history-sheeters, including the son of notorious rowdy Koli Fayaz, for hatching a plan to kill rival Brigade Azam.

The arrested are Ameer Khan alias Pappu, (30), son of Koli Fayaz, a resident of  Shivajinagar, and his associates Asif alias Mental (31) of Saraipalya, and Roshan alias Zameer (33) of Chandini Chowk in Shivajinagar.

Police said a special team arrested the accused based on a tip-off while they were waiting on Dickenson Road near the Army compound to attack their rivals. Two others, identified as Mudasir alias Muddu and Muneer, managed to escape in the dark.

Police seized lethal weapons from the gang. During investigation, prime accused Pappu revealed that he and his associates were waiting for Azam Khan alias Brigade Azam, who was about to pass through Dickenson Road. Pappu was planning to kill and rob him over an old rivalry.

Pappu, who is a history sheeter in Shivajinagar and Commercial Street police stations, is involved in 19 cases including murder, attempt to murder, kidnap, and robbery. His associate Asif is an habitual offender and Kodigehalli police have opened a rowdy sheet against him.

Who is Brigade Azam? Brigade Azam, a resident of Frazer Town, may have been underground for long, but he is well-known for his real-estate deals and his proximity to influential politicians. He had shared a mobile podium with Home minister K J George, Congress candidate from Bangalore Central Rizwan Arshad and minister Roshan Baig during an election campaign in the city.

Azam is an accused in over 15 cases, including extortion, threat to life and possession of an unlicenced country made revolver. Shivajinagar police had arrested him under the Goonda Act in 2012.
