HALASURU:Marzipan is a small cafe owned by Ashok Prabhu and his wife Kiki-Petriti Prabhu in Halasuru on C M H road. They serve mouth-watering European desserts, Greek food and some beverages.
“My husband and I are foodies. Being an avid baker myself, I thought we should open a restaurant and share our passion with the people,” says Kiki.
I tried the ‘Mousaka’ dish worth Rs 285. It’s a Greek dish with some eggplants, potatoes, minced chicken and béchamel sauce. It’s quite filling. The vegetables and minced chicken are cooked just right and retains their flavour.
Baquette Chicken Sandwich priced at Rs 175 is now on my list of favourites. This has vegetables and chicken for stuffing and is served with potato chips.
Shilov Mani, a customer, says, “Though I do not live in Bengaluru, I make sure I visit this cafe every time I’m in this city. Mutton Burger and Cinnamon Swirl Walnut Coffee cake are a must-try here.”
I also tried desserts like Banoffee and New York Cheescake (Rs 150). Banoffee have layers of cream, bananas, a delicious paste and some crumbs of cookies. Do not miss this cheesecake.
There is also the Victoria Sponge cake and Red Velvet Cheesecake priced at Rs 120 and butter cookies for Rs 25. If you want a little zing after all the sweetness, their lemon iced tea (Rs 100) is a perfect drink to sip on. The founders plan to open their restaurants across the city. They will soon launch a website for people in other parts of the country.
They add dishes to their menu everyday. Most of their dishes are from Greek since Kiki is from Greece.
This restaurant is beautifully done-up in blue and white. If you feel like a bit of swinging, there are hammocks you could sit on.
Do not hesitate to go by yourself. There are books and board games to keep you entertained.
They are open from 11 am-8 pm everyday except for Sunday.
