BENGALURU: Assistant Solicitor General of India Krishna S Dixit on Wednesday informed the High Court that the Union government has sought concurrence of the Chief Justice of India for appointing Justice K Bhakthavatsala, a former judge of Karnataka High Court, as chairman of Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT).
Dixit made this submission before a division bench of officiating Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice B V Nagarathna, which asked him how much time the Centre needs to clear the appointment.
When Justice Nagarathna pointed out the vacancies of administrative members in the tribunal, Dixit said the state government had recommended retired IAS officer V P Baligar name as administrative member to the Centre on September 5.
The Centre has sought some more information about Baligar from the state recently, Assistant Solicitor General of India said.
Taking it on record, the bench adjourned till January 2016, further hearing of the petition filed by a group of advocates, who sought directions to the state and Union governments to fill the vacancies in KAT.
