Artiste Visits Apartment,Falls to Death

BENGALURU:  A 26-year-old theatre artiste who was working as a marketing manager with a private firm died after she fell from the 13th floor of an apartment complex near Sarjapur Road in the city on Sunday night. Police suspect it to be a case of suicide.

Isha Handa, a native of Mumbai fell from the 13th floor around 6.30 pm.  Her legs, hips, hands and facial bones were broken and she died on the spot. Some residents of the complex took her to a hospital soon after but she was declared brought dead.

Isha was living at Coconut Grove apartment in Kodihalli near Old Airport Road. She left home at 4 pm and went to Sobha Classic apartment that is located in Harlur, off Sarjapur Road. Police said it was the first time Isha had come to the apartment. They are yet to find out who Isha met there.

A senior police officer said they seized sleeping pills and some amount of marijuana from her room at Old Airport Road. The officer, however, said they are not sure Isha was the one using them.

Isha, a recipient of the President’s Gold Medal for her service in the National Cadet Corps (NCC), was an active theatre artiste and had come to the city three-and-a-half years ago.

She initially worked at HSBC Bank. She quit eventually and joined Stay Glands company as marketing manager.

According to her friends, Isha was a lively person. She recently acted in a play directed by Vinod K J and Vishnu Narain. Isha’s parents Sanjay and Rajani Handa run a pharmacy.

On Sunday, she had spoken to her mother Rajani. A day before the incident, she had received a call from an unknown number. Police are trying to trace this number, sources said.

Tiff With Friend

According to sources, a few days ago, one of Isha’s friends had a tiff with her  over Isha being too friendly with her boyfriend. She had allegedly insisted that Isha stay away from him.

Police also said Anubhav Sahoo, owner of a start-up called Qyk, was her boyfriend. Anubhav is native of Bhubaneswar. He last met Isha on August 23, and according to him, they had spoken like any other day on that occasion.

HSR Layout police have registered a case.
