BENGALURU:The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its second list of candidates on Saturday. Former Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy, who has been denied a ticket, is now planning to protest against his party leaders on Sunday.

On August 4, BJP had released the names of candidates for 96 wards. On Saturday, 55 more names were announced. With this, BJP has announced candidates for 151 wards. Venkatesh Murthy, who was denied a ticket, told Express that Kathriguppe ward in Basavanagudi assembly constituency, which he represented, had been given to Sangathi Venkatesh.

“Our party leaders did not even ask me for courtesy’s sake. Earlier, there was a rumour that those who have served as mayors would not be given tickets. But Shanthakumari and S K Nataraj’s wife were given tickets. They may have denied me a ticket as I belong to the backward class. Our MLA Ravi Subramanaya and leaders R Ashok and Ananthkumar have deliberately denied me a ticket. I will stage a protest on Sunday morning and submit a memorandum to party leaders urging them to reconsider this. If they do not give me ticket, I will go to national-level leaders,” he said.

He also claimed that in wards such as Girinagar and Vidyapeetha, candidates who have not been party workers were given tickets.

A BJP leader said there were allegations against Venkatesh Murthy. “Our leaders did not want to give him a ticket. Also, he has served as mayor for 17 months. During the assembly election, we had given a ticket to Venkatesh Murthy to contest from Shanthinagar, but he lost,” he said.
