BENGALURU: The Lokayukta Special Court on Friday directed the Lokayukta police to investigate allegations against Textiles and Ports Minister Baburao Chinchansur of amassing disproportionate assets to the tune of `50 crore.

Judge Prabhavathi M Hiremath also asked the Lokayukta police to submit a report on or before July 7. The court was hearing hearing a private complaint lodged by M Shanthappa of Kannahalli village in Yadgir taluk of Kalaburagi district.

High Court judge K N Keshavanarayana had quashed the judgment passed by the Lokayukta Special Court on November 28, 2012, referring to the complaint lodged by Shanthappa with the Lokayukta Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru Urban District, and all further proceeding undertaken by the Lokayukta police.

However, Justice Keshavanarayana had directed the Lokayukta Court to consider the matter afresh and pass appropriate orders in accordance with the law. Based on this direction, the Lokayukta Special Court issued the order on Friday.

In his complaint, Shanthappa said Chinchansur was elected the first time as MLA in 1989 and later in 1994 and 1999 from Chithapur constituency.

He was again elected to the Legislative Assembly from Gurumitkal constituency in the election held on May 30, 2008, and since then, he has been an MLA.

He alleged that in the said period, Chinchansur had amassed huge assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, but he had filed “vague and incorrect statement of his assets and liabilities before the Lokayukta”.

He also alleged that Chinchansur filed incorrect statements before the Election Commissioner and had acquired several benami properties in the names of his wife and son-in-law Ramesh.

Express tried to contact Minister Chinchansur, but he was not available for comments.
