BENGALURU: Your weekend trips to Cubbon Park with your family could also help you keep track of your blood-sugar levels or check your dental health. After the success of Sunday events at Cubbon Park, the department of horticulture is planning to have more.
The department is set to organise free health camps (including dental checks) and social-awareness camps, with the help of some NGOs, on Sundays. They will also have events for nature lovers including classes on the cultivation of unusual plants.
For the past six months, the horticulture department at Cubbon Park has been organising several events including a performance by the Police Band, and concerts in the mornings and evenings.
“The events are held every Sunday,” said Mahantesh Murgod, Deputy Director, Horticulture Department, Cubbon Park. “A different artist performs every Sunday at 6 am and 4 pm, then there are art exhibitions, performances by child artists and events organised by Bal Bhavan. The police band plays once a month.”
On any Sunday, visitors can take a free cycle ride between 11am and 3 pm. An exhibition of plants is organised every week, where people can also buy sapplings.
The park also hosts pets shows, yoga camps and health camps off and on.
Morning events in the park are from 6 am to 10 am and evening ones from 4pm to 7pm.
Murgod said that in addition to these, from next month on, there will be free health check-up camps for those visiting the park.
The events have endeared the park further to the people. “Almost 20,000 to 25,000 people visit Cubbon park every Sunday,” said Murgod. “There has been an amazing response.”
