BENGALURU: Pawan Kumar’s U-Turn might’ve been a success, but the main reason he made the movie was to dissuade people from violating traffic rules. But the particular traffic junction he has dealt with in his movie, had remained a nightmare.
The plot of the film revolves around the death of two motorists — a woman and a child — at the Residency Road flyover, caused by a traffic violation. In the movie, as it happens in real life, a person moves the blocks that form the median to take an illegal U-turn.
Even after three weeks of the film’s release, the blocks had not been cemented to the road and people continued to take out-of-turn U-turns. The film’s team, seeing the city corporation doing nothing to correct it, took the task upon themselves.
On Sunday morning, the entire cast and crew of the film including director Pawan Kumar, lead actor Shraddha Srinath, Roger Narayan, Dileep Raj, Radhika Chetan and many others started work on fixing the median for good.
Pawan said, “We have been following with the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) for a few weeks now, but they’ve turned a deaf ear to us. So we fixed the median.”
According to him, members of the general public joined in too. “Our distributor organised the whole thing,” said Pawan. “We had around 10 labourers, cement, concrete and machinery. We also cleaned up the surroundings. I don’t know how much it cost us, maybe around `50,000.”
Baadal Nanjundaswamy has lent his support too. “Baadal will wait for the cement to dry and then he’ll paint the blocks. It will be a landmark dedicated to the movie,” he added.
Lead actress of the movie Shraddha Srinath said, “When we come together as a team, I think we can do a lot. At some point, we’ve to stop blaming the state government or the BBMP and have to take matters into our own hands.”
