BENGALURU: The principal of the Government PU College, SRS Peenya, Bengaluru, who was accused of cheating a student, was granted anticipatory bail on Friday.

The student Devaraju had alleged that Dr N K Ramu, the principal, had collected extra fees to include his name in the list of candidates appearing for the PU exam.

According to the case registered at the RMC Yard police station, Devaraju had submitted his original SSLC marks card to the principal to obtain admission ticket to write the PU II examination. During this, the principal had asked him to pay Rs 3,500 as examination fee, but he did not give any receipt.

Thereafter, Devaraju received an interview call for a government job and hence took his marks card. Later, Devaraju got to know that his name was not included in the eligible candidates’ list. When Devaraju enquired with the principal, he did not respond properly. Further, Devaraju was informed that the actual examination fee is only Rs 1,650. Hence, he filed a complaint.

During the hearing, the counsel for Ramu argued that his client had not asked for any money and said that PU Board did not give permission to the candidate because he had taken away his SSLC marks card.

However, the public prosecutor argued that there are chances that the accused might tamper with evidence and hence should not be granted bail. However, judge Rajeshwari N Hegde of the LXII Additional City Civil and Sessions Court

granted anticipatory bail Dr Ramu, while imposing certain conditions.
