First of Its Kind Design Expo Opens on April 2

Called Designuru, it will feature exhibitions, workshops, talks and heritage walks.

BENGALURU: A festival of design, art and architecture is opening on April 2. The nine-day festival, called Designuru, aims to bring design “to the centre of public conversation”.

About 100 people, with a core team of 30 architects and students, will interact with the public and, in the words of the hosts, “redefine Bengaluru to understand the significance of art, architecture and design in our lives.”

Designuru is organised by the Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IID), Bengaluru, an organisation of companies engaged in architecture and interior design. IID conducts lectures on architecture and publishes a magazine called Antarya.

Gayatri Verma, Chairperson of IID, said the festival would cover both old and new areas of Bengaluru for its study of design: Koramangala, Jayanagar, Malleswaram, Cantonment and Whitefield. MG Road is the venue of the festival.

The event features 50 to 60 events over nine days and hopes to appeal to students, entrepreneurs, IT professionals, artists, and officials.

Dinesh Verma, IID Secretary, told City Express the expo would showcase products such as the ‘disposable dustbin’ which degrades along with the garbage.

The festival will feature exhibitions, workshops, interactive stalls, installations, talks, heritage walks, and performances.

A panel of award-winning interior designs will be on display. Students from various architecture colleges from the city will also find a forum here.

A rally called Design Yatra is set to roll in December from Bengaluru to Mangaluru and then to Goa, and will bring various disciplines of architecture into the limelight, the hosts said.
