BENGALURU: A city-based NGO launched a project that will involve all stakeholders— BWSSB, BBMP, BDA, Pollution Control Board, Indian Institute of Science and residents — to drive a rejuvenation and conservation process for the city’s lakes and rivers, adoption of rainwater harvesting and saving water.
‘Sujalaam— Water for Bengaluru’ was launched by Adamya Chetana at the NGO’s office premises on Saturday by Ananth Kumar, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers and Parliamentary Affairs, chief patron of the NGO, and other dignitaries.
Kumar said, “It is high time we wake up, protect and rejuvenate our lakes and other existing water bodies. Nadu prabhu Kempe Gowda gave us this beautiful city with 1,452 lakes with many interconnected to act as water balancing reservoirs. Today we are down to 209 lakes, so if not now, it is never.”
