Bengaluru: Absconding former corporator Nagaraj files anticipatory bail petition

BENGALURU: Former corporator and rowdy sheeter Nagaraj alias Bomb Naga on Wednesday filed an anticipatory bail petition in a local court after the seizure of demonetised notes from his residence on April 14.

According to sources, in the bail plea, Nagaraj stated that he has a clean image in the public and that the police were trying to malign him by falsely implicating him in the case.

“I do not know how the money was seized from my house and I suspect it to be well organised plot to tarnish my image," he said.

Umesh, an accused in a currency conversion case, had on April 7, filed a complaint against Nagaraj stating that he was abducted and taken to Nagaraj’s house and released on payment of Rs 50 lakh. Following the complaint, the police raided Nagaraj's residence and seized Rs 14.80 crore worth demonetised currency. Nagaraj and his two sons Shastry and Gandhi, meanwhile, managed to escape.

Umesh was arrested by Central Crime Branch police on April 2, along with 13 others while exchanging demonetised currency to the tune of Rs 9.1 crore, with the valid one. He was later released on bail. 

The police sources that they are yet to get any communication from court in this regard. "If he is granted anticipatory bail, we will file an objection plea to the court," police sources said.

According to the police, several teams have been formed to watch the movements of Nagaraj, who is suspected to be hiding in Tamil Nadu.
