BENGALURU: Explosions carried out at an adjacent construction site resulted in cracks at the Sree Utopia apartment complex in Kadubeesanahalli, Bellandur, say the residents.
On Monday, residents of the apartment complex were forced to vacate the building after the compound wall collapsed and cracks appeared in the building. Most of them took temporary shelters at friends or relatives’ houses.

“We were bearing the noise for past one year. They used to carry out high intensity dynamite explosions inside their property, but no action was taken against them. Children used to panic, hearing those loud noises. Explosions were mostly carried out at night, which added to the misery. We had even informed police about it,” said residents’ association president Hari.

“Never in our dreams we thought construction works at a nearby building will force us to leave our homes. We hope to return to our building, but the fear will persist,” a resident said.
Authorities concerned have asked the residents to return to their flats only after the compound wall is reconstructed and cracks are patched up. On Tuesday, the wall construction was carried out by the developers.

According to sources, Oracle Technology is building a tech park with Salarpuria developers near the apartment complex.Shivappa, resident of the apartment said, “Authorities have warned us that the stones may explode and fall on the third floor. Developers at the adjacent site have dug around 40 feet with the help of dynamites.”

BBMP assistant executive engineer Munireddy said, “Experts have surveyed the building and it is safe for the residents to return. Cracks have formed around the building. The National Disaster Response Force suggested evacuation in case the heavy rains continued.”Mayor Padmavathi said, “Dynamites were being used at the adjacent site. I have sought a report from the officer concerned about whether the tech park and apartment have followed the bylaws.”
