Office-goers hit as Central Business District comes to a grinding halt

BENGALURU: Heavy rains and inundated roads greeted office-goers in the Central Business District (CBD) on Thursday. Many reached their workplaces only by noon.Roads leading to Majestic were flooded, and areas surrounding Majestic, which is the intermediate point for many taking the metro and BMTC bus, saw heavy traffic jam.

Come rains, the stretch of the road near Sheshadripuram underpass usually gets flooded. Number of accidents and the recent death of a 18-year-old on this stretch has not changed anything here. On Thursday too the stretch was filled with knee-deep water.

At Anand Rao Circle, incomplete civic works made commuting dangerous for motorists. “We have been diverting the traffic as the road is waterlogged,” said a traffic policeman at the spot. Motorists struggled to make it through the stretch as the waterlogged roads made it impossible for them to locate potholes.
At the underbridge near the Department of Health and Family Welfare, incomplete civic works had made the road slippery, making the road worse for the motorists.

Similar situation prevailed in Shantinagar where commuters were unable to move their vehicles. The pavement on Double Road here was nearly submerged under water by afternoon. In Chikpet and Sultanpet areas, commercial establishments struggled as waterlogged roads made it impossible for trucks and goods carriers to pass by the stretch. Sultanpet Main Road, BVK Iyengar Road and junctions near the Chikpet metro station were worst affected.
