Road rage killed techie; suspects later attacked cops

BENGALURU: A day after a 28-year-old techie was murdered near Chocolate Factory in Tavarekere, police arrested a man on Tuesday. Police said it was an incident of road rage that led to the death of Pranoy Mishra, a native of Odisha who was working as a software engineer for Accenture in the city.

The accused, Karthik (26), was arrested after much action. Acting on a tip-off, a team of six policemen went to Dodda Nagamangala at 4.45pm to arrest Karthik and his associate Arun. When police started questioning the two, they attacked the team with a knife, leaving HSR Layout sub inspector Ravi and Koramangala inspector Manjunath with head injuries. Police then opened fire at Karthik, injuring him in the leg. However, Arun managed to flee and is still absconding. Karthik turned out to be a history sheeter from Mico Layout and Madiwala.

CCTV footages in the area helped police cracked the case. Three police teams had been formed to nab the accused. Karthik was later interrogated by the police.Police said Mishra was riding his bike from his home in Sudguntepalya to his girlfriend’s house in BTM Layout 2nd stage around 2am on Monday when he got involved in a minor accident with another bike.

The duo on the other bike picked a fight with Mishra and demanded `500 from him for the repair. Mishra refused to pay and left the place. This is when the duo chased him on their bike and stabbed him to death before fleeing from the spot.

CCTV footage helped crack techie’s murder

A day after a techie was killed in Tavarekere, police swung into action and arrested one of the suspects on Tuesday.What helped the police crack the case so speedily were CCTV footages from areas near the crime scene. The cameras recorded the entire incident.

Fortunately, the vehicle registration number of the accused was recorded and it turned out to be Karthik’s bike. This led police to Karthik and his friend. Karthik was nabbed by the police but his friend Arun fled the spot. He is still absconding.

DCP South East Boralingaiah said, “Karthik was previously arrested in robbery, attempt to murder and dacoity cases. He was out on bail. We will take him into custody for further questioning. Efforts are on to nab the other accused.”

This is the second case of road rage that has cost a life in the city within a month. On September 18, Pawan Kumar (26), an employee of a tour and travel company was stabbed to death by two rowdy sheeters after an argument at Chikkabidarakallu bus stop in Madanayakanahalli. The assailants Jagadish alias Jagga and his friend Dhayanand alias Dhaya chased Pawan and stabbed him.
