More rain, more chaos in city

BENGALURU: Thunderstorms along with heavy rains battered parts of the city second day in a row leaving several roads flooded again. Somanahalli recorded the highest rainfall in the city with 44mm. Parts of Agrahara Dasarahali, Yelahanka, Rajajinagar and Thanisandra received heavy rainfall late in the evening making it a tough commute for those trying to reach home after the day’s work.
Roads in Horamavu remained flooded on Friday as well and motorists struggled to wade through the waterlogged road near Hennur Police Station.

Traffic moved at a slow pace in parts of Whitefield from Vydehi Medical College to CMRIT. Desperate commuters got out of their cabs and buses to walk the remaining stretch or make alternative transport arrangements.The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Control Room received a number of complains of tree fall and water stagnation as well. Those travelling towards Lalbagh had to spend nearly an hour on the road as stretches were flooded.

For the second day in a row, residents of HSR Layout Sector 6 and 7 were an anxious lot as the area remained completely immersed. Even as the situation was relatively better on Friday, there was still flooding on the roads on Friday, according to residents. Shivakumar, a resident of HSR Sector 7, said that this was the sixth time they had been affected by waterlogging since August. “18th Cross in particular turns worse,” he said.

Waterlogging was also a problem at Anugraha layout, Dollars Colony, Bilekahalli and surrounding areas after the downpour.Peak hour traffic at Silk Board junction was thrown out of gear as water logging crippled the movement of vehicles. Commuters took to social media to complain that they took over 40 minutes to pass the junction.

Trees uprooted

Trees were uprooted in JP Nagar, near Maiyas Restaurant in Jayanagar and near Raheja Apartment on the road near Wipro Junction.

Mekhri Circle underpass inundated

Traffic moving towards Airport Road was slowed down due to waterlogging in Mekhri Circle underpass. Parts of Ballari Road near Hebbal bus stop were flooded post the evening showers. Water had stagnated near Chikkajala as well.

The South West monsoon on Friday brought rain with thundershowers spread over coastal Karnataka and at a few places over north-interior Karnataka. The heaviest rainfall in the state was 142 mm at Beluvai in Mangaluru taluk and 133.5 mm at Venur in Beltangadi taluk, both in Dakshina Kannada district. As per the forecast issued by Indian Metrological Department (IMD), rain or thundershowers are likely to occur in most places over South-interior Karnataka and at several places over coastal Karnataka and north-interior Karnataka on Saturday. Heavy rainfall is forecast in the northern areas from Sunday. The reason
for the current spells of rain has been attributed to multiple troughs and a shear zone.
