BENGALURU: A 45-year-old woman executive with a well-known software company was brutally assaulted by a huge mob after she reported to the police about illegal transportation of cattle for slaughter near Tippu Circle in Avalahalli in Bengaluru South on Saturday night.
Nandini, a resident of Avalahalli, said she brought the matter to the notice of police officer Y Gowda at Thalagattapura police station. He registered a case under various sections of The Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act around 7.25pm. The complaint was filed by one Pushpa Bisht who was with Nandini.
“Gowda said 15 policemen had already reached the spot and were trying to rescue 14 heads of cattle hidden near the illegal slaughter house. Well aware that the place is tucked away, we requested the police to accompany us. On the reassurance that 15 officers were present there, I and Rijil, another friend, proceeded to the spot with two police constables. Pushpa stayed behind to get an acknowledgement of her complaint.
“We were expecting police personnel there, but to our shock didn’t find them. Instead, we found a huge mob near the slaughter house where 11 heads of cattle were hidden in filthy conditions. Our car was attacked from all sides. They threw cement blocks at the car, damaging it badly,” she said. “I sustained injuries on my right arm and head while Rijil sustained injuries on his left hand and face. There were more than 150-200 people around us,” she added.
Thoroughly shaken by the vicious attack, Nandini said, “We later returned to the police station and filed another complaint around 11.45pm. Police registered a case under IPC Sections 143 (unlaw assembly), 147 (rioting), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (assault or use of criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 427 (causing damage). Whoever attacked us had the intention to kill us.”
“I will approach senior police officials regarding why police officials falsified information and why they did not book a case under IPC 307 (attempt to murder). If they do not co-operate, I will approach the courts for further action,” she added. Asked about Nandini’s allegations, DCP (South) Sharanappa said, “We will look into it and action will be taken accordingly.”
