Special Officer of Victoria Hospital dismisses harassment allegation

Two days after the casualty in-charge nurse from Victoria Hospital accused Dr Balaji Pai, Special Officer of Emergency and Trauma Care Centre, Victoria Hospital, of making an gender insensitive remark

BENGALURU: Two days after the casualty in-charge nurse from Victoria Hospital accused Dr Balaji Pai, Special Officer of Emergency and Trauma Care Centre, Victoria Hospital, of making a gender insensitive remark, Pai rubbished all allegations saying he was being framed.

Dr Balaji Pai told The New Indian Express, “I have sent my statement to the BMCRI Dean over email as I am out of station. She (the nurse) had come to me asking if certain records should be sent to the Dean. I gave a call to the Dean immediately, and he said he had not asked for any. They went back happy. I don’t know how the entire thing turned against me. I am not a fool to make such an insensitive ‘rape’ remark. I have also sent my statement to the medical education minister and the additional chief secretary of medical education.”

However, the complainant refused to talk to The New Indian Express. BMCRI Dean, Dr HS Sathish said that statements were taken from the complainant and from two others who were present in Dr Pai’s chamber. Sumithra Devi N, Working President, Karnataka State Government Nurses Association, said, “The complainant is receiving a number of calls to withdraw her complaint. The Dean has also told her not to make a big issue out of it and that he will ask Dr Pai to apologise to her if the inquiry finds him guilty.”
