BENGALURU: The installation of the new government seems to have put a halt to “Less Traffic Day,” a project announced by the previous Congress government. The campaign sought to encourage more people to leave their vehicles at home and use public transport.

Launched in February, the first two “Less Traffic Days” observed on the second Sunday of every month, got mixed response from the public.According to a Transport Department official Less Traffic Day has not been abandoned. “It was not organised as all government departments were busy with elections. We are hoping to start it again and will certainly put in more efforts to popularise it.”

However, for now, there are no plans of holding it on a weekday.Another issue with “Less Traffic Day” has been lack of awareness about the campaign, something that the government will have to tackle on a war-footing. “With the new minister in place, talks are on about how this can be taken forward on a larger scale. Less Traffic Day is here to stay and will be restarted soon,” the official said. The day was not observed in April, May and June owing to elections and the formation of the new government.
