He is said to be the only principal of the school to have died while still in service.  He was in the hospital since last week and was on dialysis. He was also said to be on the ventilator. Although he was showing signs of improvement on Saturday, he breathed his last at 2.53pm on Sunday afternoon, doctors said.

He was admitted to the hospital a week ago after he complained of pain in the leg and drowsiness.“Dr Sudarshan Ballal and his team have done their best. As a Church, we pay our respects to a man who had an impact on many,” said Bishop Rt Rev Prasanna Kumar Samuel.

Zachariah took over as the principal of Bishop Cotton Boys’ School in 2010, prior to which he was the principal of Cathedral Composite Pre-University College and High School. “He has served as a principal in the institutions of Church of South Indian (CSI) for the last 23 years,” the Bishop added.
