BENGALURU: Performing for over 10 years to their favourite fan base in Bengaluru, the popular Blues band Soulmate will be performing their popular numbers in the city this weekend. With Tipriti Kharbangar’s vocals and Rudy Wallang’s guitar tunes, the band has been creating music for the past 15 years. They have been on a break for a while, but the band is back now, and are hoping to perform to a welcoming crowd in the city.
The two-piece band has been recording songs, and have not yet committed to an album yet. “We prefer that an album has a particular theme and till we have enough songs, we’re just going with the flow,” says Tipriti. While the rest of us may agree that the music industry can get competitive, the band believes that competition is not a word in their dictionary. “Each band performs their music in their own way and those that put in more effort and dedication will make it,” adds the young singer.
Regardless of the increase in the number of bands in the city, Bengaluru continues to be their favourite place to perform. Agreeing that the audience here knows their music and appreciate good music, it has been an uplifting experience for the band so far. They have received widespread support from the audience as well as from various venues they’ve played at.
The challenging bit, Tipriti says is performing Khasi folk music with other folk musicians. “It is a struggle as we want to try and make it as authentic as possible. There are no shortcuts. But the satisfaction of playing the music correctly and being appreciated by an audience who doesn’t understand the language is our reward,” exclaims Tipriti. During downtime, the artistes go for a stroll around Shillong and watch movies.
The band will be playing at Hard Rock Cafe on June 30 at 8 pm.
