Bangalore Railway Division: Woman delivers baby in train, both shifted to hospital later

According to a railway official, the passenger developed labour pain on board train no 56503 running from Bengaluru Cantonment to Vijayawada, just as it reached Thondebhavi railway station at 9.58 am.

BENGALURU: A woman passenger on Thursday morning delivered a baby girl on board an unreserved coach of a passenger train with the help of other women passengers. The incident took place at the Thondhebhavi railway station which falls under Bangalore Railway Division.  

According to a top railway official, the passenger developed labour pain on board train no 56503 running from Bengaluru Cantonment to Vijayawada, just as it reached Thondebhavi railway station at 9.58 am.
Station Master Pramod Kumar saw a crowd gathered in one of the coaches. “Understanding the situation, he immediately called for an ambulance. However, before the ambulance could reach, the woman delivered her baby,” the official said. The train was stopped at the station. 

After the ambulance arrived, both the baby and her mother were shifted to Gouribidanur government hospital. “Both the baby and mother are healthy”, Kumar added.  

Speaking to The New Indian Express, the station master said, “There was no delay in the arrival of the ambulance. It arrived within four minutes as it was stationed on the highway near Thondebhavi station.” 
The train had a delayed departure of nearly ten minutes from the station, he added. Guard S A Azeez Shareef was very helpful, another official said.
