#MeToo, fake news to take centre stage on Sunday at Bangalore lit fest

The #MeToo campaign, which recently garnered a lot of attention in India and led to the sacking of Union Minister MJ Akbar, will be discussed by a panel, including journalist Sandhya Menon.

BENGALURU: On the second day of the Bengaluru Literature Festival, the #MeToo campaign and the growing menace of fake news will be major topics of discussion. Along with it, contemporary issues such as the Donald Trump phenomenon and decriminalising homosexuality in India will be debated by writers and subject experts.

The #MeToo campaign, which recently garnered a lot of attention in India and led to the sacking of Union Minister MJ Akbar, will be discussed by a panel, including journalist Sandhya Menon who kickstarted the campaign regarding sexual harassment in media industry. Apart from it, journalists Barkha Dutt and Tushita Patel will be part of the panel, which will deliberate on 'Mard Ko Dard Hoga: #MeToo'.
The event will conclude with a discussion on fake news. Eminent journalists from various media outlets will talk on the theme 'Whose lie is it anyway: #FakeNews'.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor will also talk on his new book 'The Paradoxical Prime Minister'. Two discussions will be held on UNESCO heritage site— Hampi with Jnanpith winner Girish Karnad and theatre personality Arundathi Nag featuring in the same. Graphic designer and consulting editor, The New Indian Express group, Ravi Shankar Etteth will be part of a panel discussion with former Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) officer Ravi Joshi.
