Expect more rain before monsoon sets in Bengaluru

As per Varuna Mitra, the city experienced moderate amount of rainfall on Sunday, while heavy rainfall is expected around Monday morning.

BENGALURU: Though the southwest monsoon is yet to reach Bengaluru district in South Interior Karnataka, the city has been recording good showers over the past few days. As Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy reviews the rain preparedness of Bengaluru city on Monday, the Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) is expected to pass through Bengaluru.  As a result, light to moderate showers with isolated cases of heavy rainfall is expected in and around Bengaluru in the coming days.

Though the monsoon will take almost a fortnight to cover the entire state, rainfall is expected in various parts of the state during the period. Between the five-day period of June 7 to 12, coastal and Malnad regions of the state are expected to receive very heavy rainfall.

Speaking to The New Indian Express, SSM Gavaskar, scientist at Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Cell (KSNDMC) said that monsoon hadn’t advanced much along the Karnataka coast, after it reached the coasts of Karnataka, about five days ago.

As per Varuna Mitra, the city experienced moderate amount of rainfall on Sunday, while heavy rainfall is expected around Monday morning. Shubha Avinash, Project Scientist (Hydrologist) at KSNDMC, said as per the forecast, major flooding was expected in the areas of Begur, HSR Layout and BTM Layout.
Highest rainfall in Arekere

In Bengaluru Urban district, highest rainfall was recorded at Arekere at 30 mm till about 7 pm. Nalamangala, Kodigehalli and other parts received over 20 mm. Several parts of the city received light to moderate showers.

Highest rainfall in the state was recorded at Madihalli near Tumakuru, which received 82 mm rainfall. Few parts of Ramanagara and Tumakuru district received showers in excess of 70 mm during the day.
