Karnataka High Court bids adieu to Justice A S Bopanna

BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Friday bid adieu to Justice A S Bopanna, who has been appointed Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. In his address, senior counsel Y R Sadashivareddy, who is chairman of Karnataka State Bar Council, said Justice Bopanna has exhibited high levels of compassion in his 12-year stint as judge in the Karnataka High Court. 

Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari said with the elevation of Justice Bopanna, the working strength of judges of the Karnataka High Court has come down to 28. The Chief Justice said Justice Bopanna is respected for ensuring transparency during in his career. Justice Bopanna, a multi-talented personality, has delivered many landmark judgments, he added. The Chief Justice also said his contribution to the Bengaluru Mediation Centre is unparalleled. 

He also shouldered the various administrative committees. “I hope and trust that he (Justice Bopanna) will follow the high culture and bring fame and name to the High Court,” he said. 

Sharing his views on the occasion, Justice A S Bopanna said he is aware of the expectations of the people and the qualities that a judge needs to have.  He also thanked the Supreme Court collegium, headed by the Chief Justice of India, for his elevation.
