

BENGALURU: Registrar (Nursing) of Karnataka State Nursing Council (KSNC), Dr K Mallu, was arrested following a sexual harassment complaint by a 26-year-old woman employee of KSNC.
Mallu was remanded in judicial custody. He is accused of demanding sexual favours from the complainant by making unsolicited advances. The alleged sexual harassment is said to have happened between March 16 and March 25 inside his official chamber.
The victim has been working with KSNC for the last three years. The complaint was filed on March 26.
Mallu is accused of touching the complainant inappropriately and behaving indecently by commenting about her dress. He also told her that he liked her and she should cooperate with him in all ways and that he would support her. He is also accused of holding her hand and kissing. He also invited her to his house telling her not to be nervous and to stay comfortable, saying that if she was comfortable, he would be comfortable too. He is also accused of forcibly hugging her and also repeatedly calling her when she was on leave.
“Out of fear, the complainant has claimed that she went home and informed her family members. Mallu is accused of inappropriate behavior, including kissing the victim’s hands, touching her cheek, and threatening her not to disclose the matter,” said an officer.
A case of sexual harassment involving physical contact (BNS 75(2)), stalking (BNS 78(2)), act intended to insult the modesty of a woman (BNS 79) and criminal intimidation have been registered against Mallu by the Upparpet police.
