BENGALURU: The glory of the Ganga Empire will be depicted using flowers at the 220th Flower Show to be held at Lalbagh as part of the Independence Day celebrations starting from August 6 to August 17. The department has used a riot of colours to make the central theme, which is the Panchalingeshwara Temple Complex of Begur.
The horticulture department has made extensive preparations for the flower show to be held for 12 days. Chief Minister DK Shivakumar will inaugurate the exhibition at 11am on August 6, said Horticulture Department Secretary R Girish at a press conference held at Lalbagh on Tuesday. Colourful floral artworks depicting the glory of the Ganga Empire will be the main attraction of this year’s exhibition.
The powerful Gajasena of the Ganga kings, the battle scene, the Bahubali statue of Shravanabelagola and the replicas of the temples of Talakad are being made using flowers.
“In total, six lakh flowers will be used for the main theme that is a floral replica of the Begur Temple of the Ganga period. The temple is 1,200 years old. The replica will measure 50 feet in height and 24 feet in width.
Around 2.15 lakh chrysanthemums in white, yellow, pink and rust colours, along with 90,000 red and orange roses (total 3.5 lakh flowers) will be used for first six days, and the same amount of flowers will be replaced for remaining six days,” said M Jagadeesh, Additional Director of parks, gardens and floriculture in the horticulture department. He said 25,000 ornamental foliage plants will be used around the base of the floral replica.
That apart, an artistic display of the Bengaluru inscription, the Elephant Battle, and the Brahma Sthamba replica on the right side of the glass house will be mounted on a pedestal measuring 24 feet in height and 3.5 feet in diameter. In all, 2.3 lakh flowers will be used.
Along with this, innovative artworks that showcase Ganga Empire’s contributions to Kannada literature, education, irrigation and sculptures will also be exhibited.
This special theme has been designed to introduce history to the public through flowers. The Lal Bagh flower show will also have a statue of Ganga King Sripurusha with an elephant in front of the central temple theme. That apart, statues of Ganga Kings Kongunivarma, Madhava, Avinitha and Mahadandanayaka Chavundaraya will also be on display.
