BENGALURU: Indiranagar police have arrested a man for allegedly harassing a 21-year-old married woman, who ended her life on August 6. Investigations revealed that the victim’s former lover had allegedly been harassing her to be in touch with him and had threatened to kill himself and ruin her life.

This is suspected to have led her to take the extreme step. The accused has been identified as Kiran. The deceased, Kavitha, was a homemaker and a resident of Lakshmipuram. She married Raju in 2024 and they have a one-and-a-half-year-old child.

According to the police, Kiran and Kavitha were distant relatives and were reportedly in a relationship for three years before her marriage. Kiran allegedly sent messages threatening Kavitha that he would kill himself if she stopped talking to him.

He also allegedly told her that he would ruin her life. Kavitha’s family members had warned Kiran to keep away from her. However, he allegedly continued to contact and harass her.

The police suspect that Kavitha was distressed after her husband and family members learnt about the matter. On August 6, she allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her residence. Following the incident, the police registered an abetment to suicide case and arrested Kiran.
