BENGALURU: A 22-year-old woman ended her life by jumping into Agara Lake in HSR Layout police limits on Saturday. She had left a death note accusing her former classmate of blackmail over leaking her private photos online.
The deceased, Vanishree, was from Sagara in Shivamogga district. She was staying at a paying guest (PG) accommodation in HSR Layout and worked as a sales executive at a jewellery store in the vicinity. The police said Vanishree left the PG on Saturday morning and jumped into Agara Lake. Her roommate found the death note and alerted her sister, the PG owner and the police. Her body was retrieved from the lake and taken for postmortem.
In her death note, she accused her former PU classmate, Abhishek AK from Shivamogga, of being responsible for her death. She stated that he was constantly threatening her by sending her private photos and videos on WhatsApp. She said that he always blackmailed her into meeting him by threatening to circulate the photos and videos on social media. She mentioned that she was depressed and had no way out.
In the note, she demanded that he be severely punished. Based on a complaint filed by her sister, the HSR Layout police registered a case under Section 108 (abetment of suicide ) of BNS against Abhishek, and further investigation is underway.
