BHUBANESWAR: A 50-year-old man from Bhubaneswar’s Baramunda area has reportedly tested positive for Covid-19, marking the first case reported in the state capital this year.
“The patient is undergoing treatment in the isolation ward of the hospital,” a source said.
Public health director Dr Rabindranath Mishra, however, told TNIE that the department was yet to receive information about the case. He said all hospitals had already been asked to share information about Covid-19 cases whenever they are reported.
This is the second Covid-19 case detected in Odisha within a month. On July 22, a 54-year-old woman from Purushottampur in Ganjam district tested positive for the virus and was subsequently admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment. Health officials have urged people not to panic and advised them to take appropriate precautionary measures following the detection of the latest case.
In July, the department had asked hospitals to keep isolation facilities ready as a precautionary measure. It had also called for increased surveillance and the deployment of rapid response teams in districts bordering Andhra Pradesh following detection of Covid cases there.
