Cuttack's SCB Medical College and Hospital staff held for embezzling Rs 1.4 crore

BHUBANESWAR: A data entry operator (DEO) working at the office of the superintendent of SCB Medical College and Hospital was arrested by Mangalabag police on Friday for his alleged involvement in embezzling worth Rs 1.4 crore.

The accused, Dinesh Kumar Rout (36) of Kendrapara’s Rajakanika, had been working as an outsourced DEO in the accounts section of the superintendent’s office for the last 10 years. He was arrested following a complaint lodged by SCB MCH superintendent Prof Jyotish Chandra Choudhury on Wednesday.

Rout was reportedly handling salary-related work, including TA, DA and leave salary, for hospital staff. During an audit, discrepancies with salary data were detected. The report revealed the manipulation had resulted in irregularities of around Rs 1.4 crore.
