BHUBANESWAR: A senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer has been booked for allegedly raping a 38-year-old married woman and making her objectionable photographs viral.

Police sources said the accused is posted in GST and Central Excise, Bhubaneswar zone. He is absconding ever since the victim lodged a complaint in this regard on Friday (February 20). The cops have also registered a case against the accused’s cousin sister for allegedly abetting the crime.

In the complaint, the woman alleged that the officer’s cousin sister had insisted to accompany her to his quarter within Saheed Nagar police limits on January 15. “After we reached the officer’s quarter, his cousin and wife left for the market,” she stated in her complaint.

The woman claimed that the accused showed her an objectionable photograph of her and threatened to make it viral. He then reportedly raped her and warned not to disclose the matter to anyone.

“He compelled me to visit his quarter on different occasions by blackmailing to make my photographs viral. When I did not agree to his demands, he circulated my obscene photographs on social media,” the complainant alleged. According to the woman, the officer’s cousin sister had shared her obscene photographs with him.

Sources said police are probing how the two got her obscene photographs. Saheed Nagar police have recorded the woman’s statement and launched an investigation into the matter.

“The officer went on leave on Friday and his mobile phone is also switched off. Efforts are on to trace him and further action will be taken accordingly,” said a senior police officer.
