BHUBANESWAR: A court here on Thursday sentenced a 26-year-old man and his girlfriend to life imprisonment for murdering his wife with high dose of anaesthesia in Bhubaneswar in 2024.
The convicts are Pradyumna Kumar and his girlfriend Rojita alias Roji Patra (24). Second additional sessions judge Bandana Kar also directed the DLSA to provide appropriate compensation to the deceased Subhashree Nayak’s family.
Subhashree had died on October 28, 2024. Police had arrested Pradyumna, Rojita and their accomplice Ejita Bhuyan in connection with the sensational crime. However, Ejita was acquitted on the day due to lack of evidence.
Investigation had revealed Pradyumna worked a pharmacist at a private hospital while Roji and Ejita were employed as nursing staff in separate hospitals in the city. Pradyumna married Subhashree in 2020 after a love affair. However since the marriage, Pradyumna had been harassing and physically assaulting Subhashree owing to which she had been staying at her parents’ place.
Pradyumna met Ejita in 2023 and eventually became acquainted with Rojita. He developed a relationship with Rojita and told her that his wife was torturing him. The two then conspired to kill her, police said.
On October 27, 2024 Pradyumna visited Subhashree’s home and convinced her to return with him to his residence in Kesura. The next day, he took Subhashree to Rojita’s house where they injected her with high doses of Midazolam, a sedative used before medical procedures, and potassium chloride (KCl), which led to her death.
