CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Thursday alleged that a key prosecution witness in the former minister Tha Kiruttinan murder case was being intimidated with foisting of a false case against his son.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s Madurai based elder son M K Azhagiri is the main accused in the Kiruttinan murder case. On the directions of the Supreme Court the case is being heard in a court at Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.
Jayalalithaa said that the key witness and former Tirumangalam constituency MLA M Muthuramalingam was scheduled to be examined at the Chittoor court on April 1. But, in the meantime, an attempt to murder case had been filed against Muthuramalingam’s son by the Avaniyapuram police in Madurai. She also alleged that though an application for anticipatory bail had been filed, a police team had threatened Muthuramalingam to arrest him if he did not hand over his son to the police.
Terming this as an attempt to intimidate Muthuramalingam and preventing him from testifying in the case, she said that this was being done at the behest of Azhagiri, who was bent on using official machinery to secure acquittal in the case.
Alleging that Muthuramalingam and his family were under grave danger, she said that Karunanidhi and Azhagiri should be held responsible if anything happened to them. She also warned that the AIADMK would seek the intervention of the SC in this issue.Jayalalithaa said that the key witness and former Tirumangalam constituency MLA M Muthuramalingam was scheduled to be examined at the Chittoor court on April 1.
