CHENNAI: In a bizarre incident, a local rowdy bit off an ear lobe of a police head constable, who tried to arrest him under the Guindy bridge for troubling two people on Thursday night.
With the lower part of the right ear lobe completely bitten off, the policeman, Muthuazhagan (46), attached to the crime wing of the Guindy police station, had to search for the missing part in the dark for about an hour, before rushing to a private hospital.
Doctors at the hospital referred him to the Stanley Medical College Hospital, where the severed part was sewn with the ear lobe on Friday. The policeman’s condition is said to be otherwise stable.
Though the rowdy, Mithun of Bharathi Nagar, escaped after biting the policeman’s’ ear, he was arrested on Friday.
Muthuazhagan, who knows Mithun, had got down from his cycle as he was proceeding for night duty on seeing him troubling the people.

WOMAN COP ACCUSED OF BEATING HUSBAND: A woman police constable’s husband has registered a complaint with Suburban Commissioner S R Jangid against his wife for allegedly torturing and and beating him.
P Saravanan of West Tambaram accused his wife R Sudha, a constable at the all-women police station in Tambaram, of beating him everyday. The couple married six years ago. They separated three years ago after they had a baby girl but reunited last October.
Saravanan said his wife’s torture began all over again and finally he was forced to file the complaint.
“She threatens to kill me and even hit me so hard that I started bleeding,” he said. Jangid directed Tambaram AC to probe into the matter.
