CHENNAI: Members of the Confederation of Tamil Nadu Malayalee Associations (CTMA) on Tuesday demanded an impartial probe into the murderous attack on a social activist in Perambur by a group of persons inside the Sembium police station a couple of days ago.
President of CTMA M Nanda Govind said that the social activist PT Ali, a city-based businessman and chairman of Accident and Trauma Care Cell, was attacked with lethal weapons over a tenancy dispute that was of a civil nature.
He alleged that one advocate Kathiresan and his brother Ashok Raju and a few of their associates attacked Ali and then dragged him to the Sembium police station on April 17. “The inhuman attack continued before the Sub-Inspector in charge of the police station and nothing was done to prevent the assault,” he said.
“The police kept Ali in the station for over an hour though he was grievously injured and did not take any steps to take him to a nearby hospital for medical aid,’’ he said and added that Ali’s plea to the Police to protect him from the assailants had fallen on deaf ears.
Now, Ali is undergoing treatment in a private hospital for fractures and concussions,’’ Nanda Govind said.
