CHENNAI: The Syndicate of Anna University has approved the disaffiliation process of a private engineering college on charges of `impersonation’ by their teaching staff, announced Vice Chancellor of Anna University Prof P Mannar Jawahar on Thursday.
Students of this college could always be transferred to other engineering colleges so that they were not left in the lurch, he added.
The V-C said authorities of PMR Engineering College, Adayalampattu, Maduravoyil, is reported to have used teachers from their school nearby to impersonate as lecturers in the college when the team from Anna University went to inspect the College.
``There are several colleges where the infrastructure is still under construction and staff is in the process of being recruited, and yet affiliation is being given. But, in this college, our teams had visited twice and found discrepancies. We warned them and asked them to take action to rectify the problems. Yet, on our team’s third visit they found that schoolteachers were posing as lecturers. This is very big laapse and hence action has been taken,’’ he explained.
Jawahar said now that the Syndicate had given its approval to go ahead with the deaffiliation, a show cause notice would be issued to the college next week asking for an explanation following which action would be taken against the college.
The students of the college, the vice chancellor said, would not be left in the lurch and assured that if the disaffiliation came through then the students could be transferred to other engineering colleges as per the regulations.
Students from this engineering college had repeatedly complained to the University about the lack of infrastructure and absence of faculty to take classes.
The V-C said the syndicate of the University had also approved the setting up of a campus in Dubai and the modalities were being discussed.
