

HIS contribution to the cultural world is enormous. Sri Yagnaraman has always been synonymous with Sri Krishna Gana Sabha and he dedicated his life to promote the classical arts of India. He was the founder member and general secretary of the sabha for 51 years. As a tribute to his contribution and as part of his birth anniversary celebration, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha is organising Yagnaraman July Fest 2009, a festival of confluence of various forms and artistes of classical arts. The fest started on June 27 will be on till July 5. On the inaugural day, Yagnaraman Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to danseuse Vyjayanthimala Bali and the Yagnaraman Award of Excellence to vocalist Abhishek Raghuram and Kuchupudi dance exponent Deepika Reddy.
Musicologist B M Sundaram and Mrs YG Parthasarathy, dean, PSBB Schools and Chairman, Bharat Kalachar felicitated the awardees. ‘Thiruppavai’, a dance drama by Anita Guha’s Bharathanjali was followed after the inaugural function.
Yesterday, dance festival of choreographic works on Sankhya (numbers) was held, apart from a Dasavatharam in Mohini Attam and Navarasa in Bharathanatyam. Today, Ashta Nayika in Manipuri will be held, followed by Sapta Aavarta in Kathak by Prerana Shrimali.
On July 3, Shadruthu in Vilasini Natyam by Swapnasundari will be held at 6.30 pm, followed by Panchabutham in Contemporary Dance form by Madhu Natraj. On July 4, Chaturveda in Kathak will be performed by Rajashree Shirke and Dvaita in Kuchupudi by Raja and Radha Reddy will be performed at 5.30 pm on July 5. All programmes are being held at Dr Nalli Gana Vihar, 20, Maharajapuram Santhanam Salai, T Nagar.
