Paediatrician Robert Coelho of Miot Hospital was returning home in his car in an inebriated condition on Sunday around 2.30 am. He stopped the car near Hotel Woodlands when he realised that he could not drive.

A Maruti Alto with four youth inside stopped near the doctor’s car, said A G Mourya, deputy commissioner, Mylapore. The youth, who were also inebriated, forced Coelho to get out of the car and robbed him. They fled with his mobile phone, HDFC credit card and Rs 5,000.

Based on Coelho’s complaint, a police team was formed to nab the robbers. Police got a vital lead from a bank. The youngsters had used the doctor’s credit card in Puducherry, said R Ravindran, assistant commissioner, Teynampet.
