CHENNAI: All State government employees should furnish a declaration in a specified format to their heads of departments that they had not demanded dowry while getting married or while conducting the marriages of their children.

According to the Tamil Nadu Government Servants Conduct Rule, no government servant should give or take, abet the giving or taking of dowry or demand directly or indirectly from the parents or guardian of a bride or bridegroom any dowry. In 2006, the State amended the rule to the effect that every government servant shall after marriage or when he celebrates the marriage of his children, furnish a declaration to this effect. Now, the State has further amended the rule by providing a specific format for furnishing the declaration.
