CHENNAI: Fifty sovereigns of gold and Rs 25,000 in cash went missing from popular film and TV actor Thalaivasal Vijay’s house in Kodambakkam.
The valuables were stolen from an unoccupied bedroom in Vijay’s independent house on Gopal Menon Street in Kodambakkam.
Speaking to Express, the actor said the thief could have gained access to the house using the front door after breaking locks to the grill gate outside it. “The theft should have happened after midnight, because my wife went to sleep only then, and before 2.45 am when I realised I could not open my door from inside. I thought something was wrong with the lock but we realised something was amiss only when my wife found the third, unoccupied bedroom where we stored all valuables, completely ransacked,” he said.
His wife, he says, was shocked to find the third room in a complete mess with all clothes strewn around and jewel boxes missing.
The cash that was stolen was the money his children earned by winning various competitions.
Despite being situated in an active locality and despite having a dog at home, the actor says there was no indication to suggest a thief at work. “My dog, a dachshund, also did not bark a lot and we too did not guess anything as the road has been busy and noisy at night for over six months with construction activity for the flyover nearby conducted mostly at night,” says the actor.
Senior police officers visited the house and examined the place.
Finger print experts also collected fingerprints from the room where the valuables were stolen. A special police team has been formed to investigate the case.
