WHEN RJ Dheena questioned Anjana, one of the contestants of Miss Chinnathirai, ‘Who is your role model and why?’ the girl replied without a second thought, “My mom. I want to be like her to my children.” The crowd applauded her spontaneous reply and her response set an expection amidst the audience that she would be Miss Chinnathirai, and they seem to have guessed right. VJ Anjana, who joined Sun Music only six months ago, won the title Miss Chinnathirai, while Ishwarya and Ranjani were first and second runners-up in this highly competitive rampwalk for small screen artistes.

“In my talent round, I did stand-up comedy. I was not that confident but whatever I tried, I gave my best. I know my friends and mom were sitting there to support me and I should not disappoint them,” said Anjana, who hosts Neengalum Naangalum on Sun Music.

Miss Chinnathirai began in 2007, with actress Santhoshi winning the title that year followed by VJ Ria in 2008. The pageant this year was held at L’ Amicale Club, Ramavaram, and the emcee Vijay Adhiraj tried his best to keep the audience going. RJ and singer Suchi sang some hit numbers to keep the crowd entertained.

Actress Uma Riaz, VJ Ria, RJ Dheena, actor Ashok and fashion designer Karishma were the judges. The 10 contestants who participated in the beauty pageant were Pari, Kavitha, Divya, Nisha, Ranjani, Ishwarya, Anjana, Maya Reddy, Gowri Lakhsmi and Sri Devi.

Though majority of them were VJs, only a few seemed familiar with the audience. The show will be telecasted on K TV for four weeks.
